Spring at McEvoy Ranch means favas, cherry blossoms, baby sheep
and the release of our
Limited Edition blend extra virgin olive oil.
This small-batch blend is an opportunity for us to explore the wide variety of olives we grow in our Petaluma orchards, and it's a chance for us to introduce you to another taste of McEvoy.
This year half of our blend is made up of two clones of our young Moraiolo trees, harvested in December at their peak of ripeness, because we wanted to feature the intense floral aroma of this distinct varietal. The other half of the blend comes from the oldest trees in our orchards, Frantoio, which bring depth and complexity of flavor to this small-batch release.
The resulting oil is a dynamic union of McEvoy fruit that's well-balanced, full-bodied and rich in polyphenols. The flavor profile and aromas from this blend include freshly cut herbs, salad greens and radicchio, but there's also a definite note of wild Claytonia (Miner's lettuce), making this year's release "a distinct reflection of McEvoy Ranch terroir," according to our agricultural-ecologist Jeff Creque.
