After a bustling morning of community milling, hundreds of friends and fans braved the wintry chill on Sunday for our third annual Holiday Open House.
While we offer more formal, focused tours of our orchards and gardens in spring and summer, our open house event gives us a chance to share allthat we do at McEvoy Ranch.
Of course we had olive trees available and ranch staff at the ready to answer questions, but we also had tastes of our estate foods, samples of our 80 Acres bodycare line and organic produce and holiday wreaths from our gardens.
Our ranch chefs, Gerald and Mark, were very popular in our food tent with bites and sips straight from the country kitchen. Mark served a comforting winter squash soup with sage, Maldon sea salt and Olio Nuovo, and Gerald treated guests to addictive little bites of the fig and walnut tart from his cookbook, "The Olive Harvest."
And the star of the show for the children was Gerardo! All afternoon kids gathered around to watch him chop our organic pink lady apples, before churning them into the freshest apple cider they'd ever tasted.
Meanwhile, folks meandered through our olive orchards, filled their baskets with holiday gifts in our retail room and watched our mill at work as we processed fruit from our morning of community milling.
Just another day at the ranch....
