When you want an easy, elegant option for an instant party nothing says "welcome, have fun and join in" as well as a charcuterie and cheese board.
If you know your guests, you can tailor to their tastes. And, if you don't, you can be an ambassador for your own favorites. If you have a theme, that can be fun to run with - try "A Taste of Spain" or support your local artisan foodshed.
It's good to vary your meats and have a representation of whole cuts like Prosciutto, Spec, Iberico or Serrano Ham. Cured sausages like Salami, Soppressata, and Capocollo can be served sliced or in chunks. That way, you offer your guests the option to build a little "sandwich" or spear something to provide a flavor marriage.
Give guests options of soft-ripened cheeses that spread like Brie, Camembert, fresh goat cheese or Fromage Blanc. You can slide a blue cheese in here if you love them or know that your guests do. A well-aged cheese like a Reggiano Parmesan or Vella Dry Jack that stands up to assertive flavors is always a good choice. If you are going for three cheese choices (a good number), a cheese that is sliceable but, again with personality, like Pt. Reyes Toma, a young Gouda or Manchego would work well.
Please your guests and yourself. There are lots of options - don't get too hung up on what is "correct". There are very few people, in my experience, who won't be happy with good cheese and charcuterie.
Now comes the fun part!
McEvoy Ranch has many options that are going to make this platter sing! Our Tuscan Table Olives provide exactly the right "bite" to go with cheese and charcuterie. Pair that soft ripened or goat cheese with some Lemon Marmalade. Drizzle a little Spicy Pepper Jam onto a rosemary skewer of Manchego and Soprasetta. Our Savory Fig Jam is a natural with cured meat and cheese and, don't forget to drizzle a little Wildflower Honey on the blue cheese.
Buy a fresh local baguette and pour some McEvoy Ranch Extra Virgin Olive Oil in a bowl for dipping. Finally, open some of McEvoy Ranch's Summer Launch wines. We have a variety. The first is the Bonfiglio Vineyard 2017 blend of Viognier, Roussanne and Marsanne. Next, we have the 2018 Rosebud Rosé. For a red with an expansive flavor spectrum, 2016 Il Poggio Montepulciano is the right choice. Now, you have a party!
This is a perfect opportunity for sharing and fun conversation through your beautiful and delicious charcuterie and cheese platter.
