Setting a New Standard

McEvoy Ranch Wine Launch | Photo by Mona T. BrooksBreaking bread with our company founder Nan Tucker McEvoy has been a daily ritual at the ranch since the beginning. And in Tuscan tradition, delicious wine and great stories are as much a part of our midday gatherings as our peppery, estate-produced olive oil. Planting vines and making our own wine seemed the natural next step, and so we began our vineyard plantings in 2006, with one of our company founder, Nan Tucker McEvoy's favorite varieties - Pinot noir. The perfect companion to a well-told story, our Pinot noir, "The Evening Standard," is an homage to Mrs. McEvoy's family history in publishing. A cool-climate coastal wine with a balanced, old-world style, our 2010 vintage embodies the pioneering spirit of Mrs. McEvoy and her love of fine, European wines. "The softer tannins and supple juiciness make it easily approachable," says Winemaker Margaret Koski-Kent, "though the complexity of aromatics and flavors make it a wine to explore and contemplate over an evening." BLENDCrafted to set a new standard, our unique vineyard location in the western hills of Marin County offers a distinctly different climate with varied soil types. Variable coastal fog tempered with moderate afternoon sun give this delicate variety the optimal conditions for slow, balanced ripening and concentrated fruit flavors. This food-friendly wine showcases pretty aromatics, supple tannins and sound acidity, exhibiting an elegant blend of cherry, black currant, violet and rose aromas. With flavors of cassis, strawberry and tart fruits and additional notes of blood orange, cardamom and fresh earth, this wine is ripe, supple and juicy on the palate. Beginning in early August, our 2010 Evening Standard will be available for tasting on Tuesday and Fridays from 4pm until 6pm in our San Francisco Ferry Building shop.
