SustainAbility 3 Award

Memo from New York:

Our heads are still spinning from an exciting week at the New York gift show. We've met wonderful new friends, reconnected with old and were humbled by the great recognition our 80 Acre products received from the NYIGF's "Degrees of Sustainability" initiative for the second year in a row! This year our Blood Orange Collection by 80 Acres of McEvoy Ranch was among only seven product lines in over 200 awarded "SustainAbility 3" status - the highest honor from the NYIGF's panel of environmental industry experts. A week before the the show began, the "green task force" evaluated several hundred eco-conscious products participating in the SustainAbility: design for a better world display. Exhibitors were scored in a three-tier ranking system based on the sustainable nature of their products, green production process and the degree of their sustainable, fair-trade or philanthropic business practices as detailed below:
  • Green Products: products that are manufactured or constructed with only recycled, recyclable and/or sustainable materials
  • Environmentally-friendly production processes: manufacturers who are using renewable or alternative sources of energy in production, including wind, sun and alternative fuels
  • Socially-responsible business practices: products produced by indigenous people, creating viable, sustainable trades and markets in poverty-stricken and needy communities worldwide; and manufacturers who donate percentages of their sales to not-for-profit organizations
  • "Zero Tolerance" for products with: VOC; lead (for baby, children and food-related products); PVC; and Aniline dyes, formaldehyde, chlorine
Congratulations to all seven companies and products awarded "Sustainability 3" status: 80 Acres of McEvoy Ranch (Blood Orange personal body care), Aid to Artisans (recycled drinking cups), Annie Catherine (By the Sea note card set), Harry Barker (Caroline Canines for Veterans dog treats), Potting Shed Creation (Christmas Gift Collection plant growing kits), Sobral USA (Pop Art Collection vegetable resin-based jewelry) and Tay Skincare (Tay Revitalizing Skincare).
