The Ranch has uneven surfaces so be sure to wear comfortable shoes. Weather in the Petaluma Gap can be fickle so bring a light sweater or wrap plus a hat for the sun, just in case. As you wind up the hill to our front gate, drive slowly and be on the lookout for our wildlife friends…deer, wild turkeys, foxes, and jackrabbits.

The term extra virgin denotes a certain quality of olive oil; however, unless an oil has been certified by the California Olive Oil Council or the International Olive Council, that standard of quality is not guaranteed. The processing of the olives and oil, its acidity level, taste, and flavor profile are some of the factors that determine whether an olive oil is extra virgin. Our Traditional Blend extra virgin olive oil is a blend of Italian varietals including Frantoio, Leccino, Pendolino, Maurino, Moraiolo, Leccio del Corno and Coratina. Those olives help create the rich mouthfeel and our fruity, peppery, pungent flavor profile. Our Olio Nuovo is a slightly different blend of some of those same olives each year, depending on which fruit is ready for harvest as it begins. The olives used in our Limited Edition oil vary from year to year depending on our Mill Master’s evaluation.
While we often use our oil as a wonderful last note on a dish as a "finishing oil", you should feel free to use it for cooking at medium or low temperatures, whenever the flavor profile will complement your recipe. It is also perfect when mixed with one of our specialty vinegars as a dressing for greens or a marinade. Check out our Fresh Press Blog for more suggestions.
Olive oil should be kept covered and stored in a cool, dark place. We recommend using our oil within two years of the harvest date.
