McEvoy At Aspen

Over the weekend, we had the great pleasure of attending the 33rd annual Food and Wine Classic to share a taste of the Golden State. It was a whirlwind of samples, seminars, book signings, with plenty of delicious new food and drink discoveries at every turn, not to mention breathtaking views and clean mountain air, but we all agreed, it was the people and connections that made our weekend Aspen trip unforgettable.

We reminisced with longtime family friend, Jacques Pépin, about his visit to the ranch years ago with Julia Child. We watched the sun set over Ajax Mountain atop the Elk Club on the last day of spring over beers and bear stories with Aspen locals. We talked cheese and wine with Laura Werlin. And we even learned how to saber sparkling shiraz with Mark Oldman!

The highlight of our weekend, though, was Friday evening at the magic hour when guests filled the roof of the Aspen Art Museum to celebrate a taste of California. With the guidance of Bluebird Productions, stunning florals by Bareroot Flora and delicious food from Caribou Club, we were able to share a true sense of the warmth, beauty and excellence at the heart of everything we do at the ranch.

Jackson Emmer's band set the tone with his "backporch Americana" and golden light poured through the crowd, while guests mingled with our owner Nion McEvoy and Winemaker Blake Yarger.

Between stopping by our custom belt buckle workshop, guests discovered the simple pleasures of our extra virgin olive oil, pairing it, like we do, with fresh, seasonal produce, cheeses and sorbet, with a little salt or spice. Nearby, guests enjoyed freshly shucked oysters and cool, crisp glasses of our Rosebud Rosé, before trying our Red Piano with inventive tacos like olive-crusted lamb, potato and poblano pepper, and the star of our weekend, our Pinot Noir The Evening Standard, which was featured in Mark Oldman's seminar "Best Wines for Spice Lovers."

With the heat, altitude and endless indulgences of the weekend in mind, we created a little Ode Natural Beauty oasis "in the grove" for guests to relax and recharge. Using our Ode Nature Beauty body balms and body oils, guests enjoyed hand massages and experienced the green notes of our gardens in spring with cool mists of our Eau de Cologne.

It was a storied evening and weekend, full of laughter and friends, music and dancing, and delicious food and wine. And it confirmed our suspicions that Colorado and California are a perfect pair.

Thank you, Aspen!

Until next year...
