As our company has evolved and expanded since our original role as olive oil producers, our commitment to sustainability, a business principle our founder Nan McEvoy first established, has always been a primary goal. This is why we are proud to be the first Olive Oil producers to be B Corp Certified.
To build on this goal and better articulate our company-wide commitment to doing better business for our employees and local community, we connected with a network of like-minded businesses in September of 2014 called
B Corporations, becoming the first certified B Corps olive oil business in the world and joining Fetzer as one of only two certified B Corps in California!
If you aren’t yet familiar with B Corps, they are a new business model dedicated to solving social and environmental problems. B Corp certification is to business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee or USDA Organic certification is to milk.
To become certified by the non-profit B Lab, we had to meet the rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. We evaluated how our practices impact our employees, our community, the environment, and our customers, identifying our strengths and creating a baseline for continued growth and better business practices.
Going through this process helped us identify gaps in items like our employee handbook, our local community engagement efforts, and how we communicate our environmental programs….it was incredibly worthwhile and valuable for us all.

Today, there are over 1,200 Certified B Corps around the globe, including some of our local friends Greenerprinter, Equator Coffee and Traditional Medicinals. We are proud to join them in redefining success in business, so that one day everyone uses business as a force for good.
