Maurizio Castelli, our consulting winemaker, has been working with us since our inception. While his time zone may not always be in sync with us, we definitely work under the "same moon." This energy is the impetus for our McEvoy Ranch Saimuun wines where Maurizio seeks out interesting organic vineyards in Italy to handcraft wines.
The 2016 Saimuun Vermentino di Toscana is from the Bicocchi family vineyards located southwest of Massa Marittima in western Maremma. The Bicocchi family has been producing grapes on their farm since 1851, all grown organically and biodynamically.
Light-bodied, this Vermentino is surprisingly complex with aromas of white nectarine, lemon oil, fresh pear, and a delightful saltiness due to the vineyard's proximity to the coast. Flavors reveal themselves in layers of grapefruit, guava, quince, and wet stone. The higher levels of phenols from this Vermentino grape showcase its terroir by lending a taste of green almond along with a touch of white pepper spice and a viscosity that makes this a completely refreshing wine. 800 cases.
