2017 Reserve Pinot Noir

If there is a classic flavor profile for cool climate Californian Pinot Noir, the 2017 Reserve Pinot Noir has it. Although the 2017 vintage was warm and the grapes a bit riper than normal for McEvoy, the 2017 Reserve, which is made up almost entirely of fruit from Vineyard 18 on the McEvoy Ranch, has pretty aromatics, a touch of spice from the use of whole clusters and stems in the fermentor, hints of sandalwood which seem to be typical of our site, and ripe cherries. On the palate it’s pleasantly tight and angular, with good density of fruit, fresh acidity, and a little tannin that balances out the sweet fruit and carries over to the finish, keeping things refreshing.
