Real Prince Domino was the name of Nan McEvoy’s father’s prize-winning Hereford bull. He is the inspiration for our first bottling of Refosco, an estate, organic grown wine that is full of life, fresh, and full of energy. The bright, saturated red color of this chillable red wine would surely catch Domino’s eye.
Refosco is a very old variety (actually, several related varieties) native to Northeastern Italy. There it makes wine that is deeply colored and can be fairly tannic. In our terroir, it produces a vibrantly colored, but only modestly tannic wine with bright acidity and lovely, fresh flavors.
The 2018 growing season was long and cool, and the Refosco yielded a fairly abundant crop. Refosco ripens on the late side so we picked it at a fairly modest sugar level. While we typically use Refosco as a blending component in other wines, this year it was so delicious that we decided to bottle a small amount on its own.
Bright saturated red color, aromas of juicy red fruits with a charming floral note. On the palate, it’s full of life - mouthwatering acidity and super fresh, with tons of energy, and surprisingly full bodied.
