How to Choose Olive Oil for Salad Dressing and Drizzling
August 05, 2026
A good olive oil salad dressing does more than help a vinaigrette come together. It shapes the whole dish. When the olive oil is fresh, balanced, and chosen for the right job, a salad feels brighter, crisp, and flavorful. The same is true when you drizzle olive oil over vegetables, beans, fish, or warm bread right before serving. The bottle you choose becomes part of the final flavor, not just a background ingredient.
How to Taste Olive Oil Like A Pro
September 15, 2023
Tasting olive oil on its own can give the taster a unique experience of the oil’s dynamic flavor components before it is blended with other ingredients to create a delicious meal.
Professional tasters measure three attributes in olive oil: fruitiness, bitterness, and pungency. Within those three categories, however, there are many more subtle flavors. Green and tropical fruits, green tea, fresh-cut grass, or even artichoke are just a few of the flavors that you might experience. To fully abso...

Best Container for Olive Oil: Tin, Glass, Ceramic, or Dispenser?
July 21, 2026
The best container for olive oil is an opaque one that protects it from light and air while fitting the way you actually cook. Why Olive Oil Storage Matters: Light, Heat, Air, and the Case for the Tin
July 21, 2026
Olive oil is perishable. Unlike wine, it does not improve with age; it is a fresh ingredient, closer in spirit to juice from fruit than to a shelf-stable pantry item you can keep indefinitely. From the moment it is bottled or tinned, its flavor begins a slow decline shaped by how you store it. The good news is that olive oil storage is almost entirely within your control, and a few simple habits keep good olive oil tasting the way it should.

Olive Oil Packaging, Explained: What the Bottle or Tin Tells You Before You Taste

Olive oil packaging is part presentation, part preservation, and part information. Olive Fruit Fly Defense
October 12, 2023

If you're not familiar with these pesky little flies, they've been plaguing the olive industry since the 3rd century BC. First identified in Los Angeles in 1998, they've spread to most of California and become the number one enemy of our beloved Tuscan olive trees.
OPTIMUM CLIMATE AND OLIVE VARIETIES
July 07, 2023
Olive trees require a Mediterranean-like climate to survive. They need a long, hot summer and a cool, not frigid, winter. A mature tree can survive temperatures down to 15 degrees Fahrenheit for a limited amount of time; sustained cold below 15 degrees can be fatal. There are olive trees that survive outside of the typical Mediterranean zone but generally they do not produce economically viable crop levels.
