Community Mill Day is one of the most exciting days of the year. Small growers from across Northern California bring their freshly-picked olives to our mill to create a true regional blend olive oil. We combine everyone’s crop and mill a seasonally unique Extra Virgin Olive Oil that is always delicious. Come with your olives and join us!

How does it work?
We combine everyone’s olives and mill them together to make a community olive oil. Each participant receives a commensurate amount of the final oil based upon how many pounds of olives they contributed to the blend (we will weigh your olives on our certified scale when you arrive). Most seasons, we make two blends of olive oil: a Tuscan blend and a non-Tuscan blend. Our Community Milling olive oil yield amount varies based on the olives participants bring. In the past, approximately 80-100 pounds of olives yielded 1 gallon of Community Milling olive oil.
Who can come?
Anyone with olives to mill – we’ve had participants who have brought anywhere from 4 pounds to 400 pounds of olives!
We will not pull aside and process any crops individually for milling – this is a communal event!
Will all olives be included in the blend?
As long as the olives are in good condition, absolutely. Olives that have been damaged by frost, olive fruit fly, or other sad circumstances will not be included.
When should your olives be picked?
Please pick your olives on Friday, November 13, 2020 at the earliest or, ideally, entirely on Saturday, November 14, 2020. Olives picked too early and stored in a warm place will begin to rot and will not be admitted into the community mill. Place them somewhere dark, cool, and dry between picking and when you bring them to the mill.
Do you need to bring bottles for your oil?
You are welcome to bring sanitized, labeled containers for your oil. We also offer containers for purchase, and you will be charged for them at the time of pick-up (Please note: we do not sell extra containers nor divide up oil for participants – the containers provided are for “transportation” purposes only, and the container size your oil is put in is at McEvoy’s discretion, based on availability).
When do you get your oil?
We will divvy up everyone’s oil into the proper amounts and containers for pick-up beginning on Monday, November 23, 2020. Pick-up will be by pre-scheduled appointment only (no drop-in), and can be arranged by calling 707-769-4138 or emailing [email protected]
In the event of a severe storm or frost we will postpone Community Milling Day. Light or moderately rainy conditions will not result in a postponement. If severe storm conditions are predicted, we will email all registered participants on Friday morning to reschedule.

For olive growers seeking an individual, large-volume Custom Milling, McEvoy Ranch may be able to accommodate a very limited number of customers. Due to our capacity and scheduling constraints, we must evaluate Custom Milling requests on a case by case basis. Upon receipt of the aforementioned information, we will respond by either providing an Olive Oil Milling Agreement (fees and details included) for your review/completion/return (upon receipt we can schedule a mutually agreeable milling date), or we will let you know that, unfortunately, we cannot accommodate your milling request.
