    Cost: $35

    Location: McEvoy Ranch

Welcome to McEvoy Ranch! On this tour, we will share our family history, commitment to environmental responsibility, information about our wine program and award-winning olive oil. This two-hour experience includes a walk in the orchards and the vineyards where we will explain the horticulture of our plantings. We will then proceed through the frantoio olive mill to learn about our unique process of extracting oil. To finish, we’ll gather for an oil tasting and sensory evaluation and offer suggestions for how to best enjoy our olive oil.

Following the tour, please allow time to visit our retail shop where we feature our olive oil, wines, estate products and 80 Acres body care line. Or stay and taste our wines! A flight of three pours is available for $15 + tax per guest. Wine club members will enjoy their discount and receive up to 4 complimentary wine tastings. Click here to learn more about the club.

Our tours start promptly at the designated start time.

    Please Note

We invite children ten years or older to join us on the Ranch Tour. We'll be walking on some uneven surfaces, so comfy shoes are in order. You can also bring along a small portable chair, if you'd like. The weather in our west Marin location can be fickle—we recommend coming prepared with options! The tour won't be cancelled due to mildly rainy conditions.

We love our pets, too, but unfortunately, with the exception of service dogs, they have to stay at home. The local wildlife has been known to greet arriving guests—look out for wild turkeys, deer, foxes and jackrabbits (to name a few) from the lower gate all the way up to the Ranch. Please drive slowly (15 mph) after you turn off the main road.

The Ranch is the McEvoy family's private residence, so please stay with your group during your visit.

McEvoy Ranch is not responsible for injuries to visitors. Attendance and participation are at your own discretion.

Cancellations made up to 72 hours in advance will receive a full refund. Please contact visit@mcevoyranch.com or call 707.769.4138 if your plans change.

This workshop targets small and mid-size growers with 1 – 100 acres for medium density olive orchards for table olives or oil production.

Join McEvoy Ranch’s General Manager Samantha Dorsey and Extra Virgin Alliance’s Alexandra Devarenne for a full-day olive oil workshop. This course will cover season-by-season cultural practices for growers to cultivate healthy olive trees that consistently produce high-quality oil. In addition, we will present an introduction to tasting olive oil for producers by examining the positive and negative flavor characteristics in the context of grove management and milling decisions.

The morning’s indoor lecture topics will include:

    • Planning, land preparation and planting
    • Watering
    • Fertilizing
    • Weed control
    • Pruning
    • Cover crops
    • Pests and disease control
    • Animals in the orchards
    • Harvest and milling

After a farm-fresh lunch with McEvoy Ranch’s estate-grown wine (and olive oil!), we will spend the afternoon in the orchards reviewing the morning’s content as it is applied in the field. We will be outside moving about on uneven surfaces. Layers and comfortable shoes are recommended. Bring your questions and engage in the discussion!

Our day will conclude at McEvoy Ranch’s beautiful tasting room and patio. Join us for a complimentary glass of wine and special treat in the tasting room at the conclusion of the workshop, also leaving time to enjoy our charming retail shop.

This is an advanced course for Producers, Millers and Industry Professionals taught by the esteemed Dr. Agusti Romero. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

World-renowned olive oil taster and expert Dr. Agustí Romero will teach a one-day advanced olive oil sensory analysis course for olive oil producers, millers, and industry professionals at the beautiful McEvoy Ranch. Dr. Romero is the head of a project at IRTA (Catalonia’s Institute for Research and Technology in Agriculture) that provides technical advice to mills by using sensory and chemical analysis. His vast experience in olive oil— including his work at IRTA as well as his position as the panel trainer for the official Catalan olive oil taste panel—makes him an unparalleled resource for anyone seeking to make or source better extra virgin olive oil.

This tasting course will focus on recognizing problems and maximizing quality in olive oil production. In addition to looking at the positive and negative impacts of various harvest and processing decisions, we will delve into the often-underestimated topic  of olive oil conservation and best practices for ensuring a good shelf life.

The course will conclude with a blind tasting and critique of olive oils selected from samples brought by class participants. Evaluation and discussion of these oils, of probable causes of issues and potential improvements, will provide a chance to learn about extra virgin olive oil quality assessment and improvement from one of the world’s best!

Class participants are invited to submit one bottle of their olive oil (375mL or 500mL) for analysis in the final tasting session of the class. This is a rare opportunity to receive expert feedback regarding production problems or strengths.

If your oil is selected for evaluation by Dr Romero and the expert panel, you will receive a code number for your oil—this tasting will be completely blind and anonymous. We cannot guarantee that all samples will be tasted.

    Please send your sample to:
    McEvoy Ranch
    5935 Red Hill Rd
    Petaluma, CA 94952

for receipt by June 2. Please include details of production: variety, harvest date, milling details, growing conditions, maturity index, etc., as well as results of any chemical analysis. Email visit@mcevoyranch.com when you send the sample so we can look for it.

    Lennie's Bio:
Lennie Larkin started B-Side Farm after falling head over heels for flowers. She came to farming and flowers from a background in adult education. Naturally, B-Side Farm has quickly become an educational farm where Lennie not only grows and designs with flowers, but teaches others how she's doing what she's doing. B-Side Farm workshops are designed to meet every student where they're at and encourage them to dive a little deeper into the world of flowers - whether in the garden or design studio. The B-Side Blog is a growing resource for both of these arenas.

Before staring B-Side, Lennie spent two years at the UCSC Farm and Garden, and then moved on to run the educational farm at Petaluma Bounty where she taught the public to grow crops for the local community for three seasons. She is the West Coast Director for the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers, and teaches flower farming and horticulture at Santa Rosa Junior College.
